Recently, I came across an editorial the theme of which I have been seeing more and more in news publications over the past few years. The author, allegedly speaking on the behalf of a vast number of disgruntled “Catholics,” argued that the Catholic Church is in desperate need of reform; that many of her teachings, especially concerning priestly celibacy, the role of women in the Church, homosexuality, contraception and a whole host of other moral issues are no longer befitting of the needs of modern man and are, therefore, in need of revising, or to use the term more often applied to the issue in contemporary publications, “updating.” ...
